What your moon sign is
Your moon sign is the sign the Moon was passing through when you were born. Astrology reads the Moon as your inner weather: moods, needs, the comfort you reach for when tired or upset. The sun sign is how you shine; the Moon is how you feel and recover.
The Moon crosses one sign in about two and a half days, much faster than any planet. On most birth dates it stays in one sign all day, so the date alone is enough. On roughly two days in five it moves into the next sign at some hour, and then the time decides.
Without a time, we use noon and check the whole day. If the Moon changed sign, the result says so, for example Cancer or Leo with the hour it crossed, so you can decide with a rough idea of when you were born. Place matters only for the time zone.

How this is calculated
Apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude of the Moon (true ecliptic and equinox of date) from astronomy-engine at the UTC instant of birth. Without a time: noon local, and the local day from 00:00 to 24:00 is searched for a sign change, found to the minute.
