What the expression number shows

The expression number, which many books call the destiny number, is worked out from every letter of your full birth name. Where the life path describes the road, numerology reads the expression as the equipment you bring to it: talents, habits and the way you tend to get things done.

Each letter has a value from 1 to 9, A is 1, B is 2 and so on, with J starting again at 1. The letters of each name are added and reduced to one digit, the names are added together, and that total is reduced, keeping 11, 22 and 33. Accents are folded, so É counts as E.

Use the full name on the birth certificate, middle names included. A married name or nickname gives a different number, which you can try in the name numerology calculator. The consonants alone give the personality number, shown under the main result.

How this is calculated

Pythagorean values (A=1 to I=9, J=1 to R=9, S=1 to Z=8). Accents are folded to base letters. Each name is summed and reduced to one digit; the names are added and the total reduced, keeping 11, 22 and 33 at the final step. The all-letters total is shown when it differs. Personality uses the consonants with the same Y rule as the soul urge. Names in other scripts are not supported.
