Soul Urge Number Calculator
Type your full birth name. Only the vowels count here, and you choose how the letter Y is treated.
What the soul urge number is
The soul urge, also called the heart's desire, uses only the vowels of your full birth name. Numerology reads it as the private motive behind your choices: what you want when nobody is watching, as opposed to the skills of the expression number or the public road of the life path.
A, E, I, O and U always count. Y is the tricky letter. By default it counts as a vowel when no other vowel sits beside it, as in Mary or Lynn, and as a consonant when one does, as in Yolanda or Boyd. You can switch the rule to always or never, and the ladder shows exactly which letters were used.
The vowels of each name are added and reduced to one digit, then the names are added and reduced again, keeping the masters 11, 22 and 33. Two people with the same expression number can have very different soul urge numbers.

8 - The same name with Y never a vowel: 1 + 9 = 10, then
1 - Yolanda: the Y sits next to O, so it is a consonant. O A A = 6 + 1 + 1 =
8
How this is calculated
Vowels of the full birth name with Pythagorean values. A, E, I, O, U always count; Y counts when no vowel is beside it in the same name (switchable to always or never). Each name's vowels are summed and reduced to one digit, the names added and reduced keeping 11, 22 and 33.
